 | Introduction |
Hong Kong Club is a non-profit organization which serves the Chinese community in
Chicago. The main goals of the organization is to help out the new immigrants, spread
the Chinese culture and make Chicago a fun place to live.
 | History
Hong Kong Club was originated in 1992 by a group of Hong Kong people who live in Chicago.
We realized most of the immigrants have tremendous hardship in the first couple years in
United States. Being strangers to the new environment, culture and language, all of them
have to overcome a lot of challenges. So these people decided to make Chicago a fun place
for the new Chinese comers to live. We first started out by getting together once
a while, try to know each other better, develop some friendship, get some entertainment,
and perhaps help each
other out. This idea was well accepted by others and
the group has soon grown into an organization. We named it the 'Hong Kong
City Hall'. |
As time went by, more and more Hong Kong people came to US and the group have grown
bigger and bigger. And finally, in order to have a more systematic way to help out the new
immigrants, 21 directors stood up on Feb 21, 1994 and under the
inauguration by Judge Eugene Campion, Hong Kong Club is officially
established.
